Trying to salvage a good page gone bad
Thursday, September 22, 2011
How do YOU salvage a page when it is not going in the direction you'd like? Do you just toss it? Do you make the most of it and then move on? I started with a watercolor doodle:
And then, I added some black ink, white scribble paint and then it just got out of control. I ended up covering up large parts of it with other papers and magazine pictures. Oh well! Sometimes you just keep going with your pages and see where they take you.

I've been doing a really fun project with my students at school: STRING BALLS. (that's my other blog about teaching art). You make them by blowing up a balloon and covering the balloon with yarn dipped in glue. Here are some of the pics from that project:

Sometimes a painting just needs to go where t wants to go...Love your string balls
I never throw anything away (well, almost never) I always try to use the canvas for something and make a texture and start over ...we are alike there. love the balls of colorful string and as a mobile genius ! cool for sure

I used to toss them, but now I tend to keep working or save it to recycle into another project. Glad you kept working on this one. It turned into something great.
Love those yarn balls!
I'm liking those string balls...creatively cool! And your page looks awesome too...maybe you just need to step back and look at it in a different light! I find that sometimes it's better to let it simmer and see! POP ART MINIS
What fun! Love the creative string balls :]
I think you did an excellent job of salvaging your journal page. Thank you for sharing.
Oh, I LOVE the string balls! Maybe I should try that with my son!
All I can say is I like it. I threw some of my art away and now I wish I didn't. ...there is always another life to an art piece. Come to think of it Masters painted over art work they disliked.
And those yarn balls are great. I'll have to tell my neighbour( kindergarden teacher ) your craft idea. Thanks so much for sharing. By the way I bet the kids loved the art class you gave. These are so very cool!
I am loving the string balls and remember doing a very similar project with one of my classes except we also crumples some cellophane into them and then they were like stained glass hangers, the light in the classroom was amazing... if a little trippy at times. Love your blog and enjoying following!
Loving those string balls, very cool.
Wow your salvage turned out wonderful! And the string balls are amazingly FUN!!!! Deb
All salvaged. You might like to look at Soulcollage. I have another blog www.soulcollagenz.blogspot.com
Lots of layers are always my favorite way to "salvage" a page :)
Your string balls look so cool - I am definitely going to give that a try!

Investigate and seek new paths in art is very good.Saludos
I agree...sometimes you just have to keep adding more. So glad you linked up your string ball project!

Your salvage page turned out really well, and am loving the string balls.
love the string balls! as for saving art... I've cut up the parts I liked and used in little altoid tin dioramas before!

I thought your watercolor doodle was awesome but love the way the page turned out too! Your string balls are cool too. I recently saw someone make pumpkins out of them by sitting them on a surface while they were drying for a flat bottom and then cutting out the top, inserting a string of lights and making a stem. Way cute.
I think you did salvage it. Looks good to me. If I don't like a page I just move one, unless it is in a spiral bound book. Then I sometimes cut it up to use in other things. Love the string balls!
I really like how you salvaged your journal page!
Ah, I'm so loving your string ball that I'm thinking of make a few small one and group them into a hanging mobile.
Thank you for such fun inspiration! ;)
I never toss art away. :) I go with it wherever it takes me. I don't particularly worry too much about it.
Love your string balls and your salvage page looks great. Nice job!
My favorite salvage technique is to cut it into smaller pieces. Things I hated in their original size have turned into some of my favorit post cards or ATC backgrounds, or collage elements.
Oh those balls are awesome!! Love them!
Very nice... like the collage art
