A Long Journey | Digital Art | Quote by Rumi

I have been having fun adding digital text to my mixed media artwork.

I have just discovered Rumi.  He has the best lines of poetry.

Greeting cards of this image will be coming soon!

Artsy Blog Hop

I was asked to participate in this artsy blog hop by the lovely Zoe Ford.  Her artwork is bright, bold, colorful and fun like the style I enjoy working in.   Here are the three questions + my answers.  At the bottom, I am linking to three more awesome artists who will be answering these questions next week.

1. How does my creative process work?

It depends on what I am making.  Often I will see something online that will spark my interest and I will try that particular technique.  Or, I might see something compositionally that I want to try in my own style.  Many times, I will just choose some images and papers from my stash and play around with them until I find an arrangement for a collage that I like.

2.  How does my work differ from others in my genre?

Hmm... that's hard to say.  My artwork is usually very colorful.  I love color and I love artwork that is crazy full of lots to look at.  I teach elementary art my style often has child-like or playful imagery.

3.  What am I working on now?

Currently I have no series or big projects going on.  I try to sneak in little bursts of creative moments when I have time.  I pick up my art journal and will use watercolor paints if Desmond is sleeping.  If he is awake, I can put him on my lap and use markers or dry collage.

I have been working on some things for school and products for my TPT shop such as these posters and this Art Journaling with Kids E-Zine.

I have also been experimenting with different online companies to print greeting cards and postcards.  I have tried Zazzle.com (the greeting cards were not very crisp, but the company gave me a full refund.  The postcards they sent were glossy and nice.)  Mixbook was much better.   Still not perfect, but better.

Now, I have three blogs for you to visit.  I met these girls on an artists Facebook group!

1.  I love the textures and soft color palette in Julia Sears Osterc's artwork:  Lovingrd
2.  Lynnette Cretu's art has beautiful lettering of scriptures.
3.  Donna L. Martin creates some lovely layered and textured mixed media work.

Oldies but Goodies

I found these old journal pages and thought I'd share these with you.  I don't know if I have posted these before, but even if I have, they are at least 2 years old so maybe you haven't seen them yet.

All Creatures Great and Small | Mixed Media Collage

I have been finishing up loose ends of projects that I started months ago.

In the past few days I have had a burst of enthusiasm to make art.

A common sight in my house during the day is my daughter at the kitchen table drawing a picture of her Care Bears or family.  Me sitting at the table nursing baby Desmond while working on an art journal page.

I'm so lucky he's an easy-going baby.

Trust me.  I know what it's like to have a colicky one.

Three months of playing at the park, sitting outside while Daria plays in her kiddie pool, chatting with neighbors close by and meeting friends for lunch.  Summer really is a great time of year.

Watercolor Flowers with Ink

I prepared the watercolor blobs ahead of time and took them with on a long car ride.  I added the black lines with a Pilot Varsity Fountain Penand some Sakura Pigma pens.

This was a big weekend!  We took our first car trip with baby Desmond to Chicago and we threw a baby shower for my brother and his wife, who are due in September.  I'm so happy that they will be having a baby also and Desmond will be able to grow up with a cousin his age.  We also celebrated my mom's retirement and cousin's graduation.

Also, you may have heard about the same-sex marriage ban being overturned in Wisconsin.  My sisters-in-law got legally married this weekend!  They had a commitment ceremony several years ago, but now it is legal too.  Their story made it on the news and you can read it here.

These gelli print collages make me want to get out my Gelli plates to make some papers.

I love the contrast between the bright watercolors and black inky lines in these artworks.

I finished a new edition of my E-Zine called Art Journaling with Kids.  You can download it from my store on TPT.

A Tag from SMCreations

On a Facebook group for artists, I helped a member recover her Wordpress site after it went down.  (Soon I will post a blog article about an easy way to do that.  When it happened to me, I had to search a lot of forums for the answer and play around with things.)  To thank me, she sent me this gorgeous artsy tag.  You can see her art at SMCreations.  Thanks, Michelle!  I love it.  :)
