Fall Fearless and Fly Prompt #6 and Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

This is a perfect time for the Fall Fearless and Fly prompt #6:
Headline Prompt:  Divided by God:  What does "God" mean to you?  How do you access"God" or the divine or the sacred in your life?
Color Prompt:
Metallics - gold, silver, copper, bronze, or all of them!
Quote Prompt:
"This is my simple religion.  There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy.  Our own brain, our own heart, is our temple; the philosophy is kindness."  The Dalai Lama

I do believe in God and the Bible as a blueprint for how to live our lives.  I do believe that God is much greater than any of us can understand and that he reveals himself through Jesus and creation in different ways to people all over the world.

Here are some Christmas themed art journal pages from last year!

LOVE Christmas card

Print and color this card to give

Free Printable Christmas Card!
Marit, founder of Featuring magazine, suggested that we all make print and color holiday cards to post on the website.  For the past few years, I have made little cards from my artwork to use as thank you notes at school.  If a kid gives me a holiday gift or card I will give them one of my little artwork cards.  So, this was perfect, because now my holiday card is done for school.  Some kids at school saw me drawing this and they all said they wanted one, so I'm going to print off a bunch.

If you would like to print off this card for yourself or your kid to color, go ahead!

Do you make your own holiday cards?  If so, how do you do it?

Creativity Queue Challenge Day 5

If you are coming here from Daisy Yellow's blog, welcome!  I am the hostess for Day 5 of the Creativity Queue Challenge.  This is a challenge where you are charged to do something creative that you have been meaning and wanting to do.  Anything goes, as long as it is something you have already started (in your head or actually physically).

My challenge:  Create a digital birthday card using parts of my own art.
I had been wanting to make and print out little birthday note cards to have on hand to give out to my students at school when it is their birthday.  I have over 125 students, so it needed to be something small, quick and easy, where I can just write a brief note and sign my name.

Here are the steps I took.

1.  First I downloaded a background from 100+ New Watercolor Textures
I suppose I could have painted one myself, but I just wanted to find a fun one quickly.

2.  I took an old watercolor painting of mine:
I combined the two images.  I put this painting on top of the background.

3.  Then I used some downloaded brushes to create a frame.

4.  Next, I erased some of the inside to make a place to put the text.

5.  Then, I uploaded the jpeg to Picasa.
When you look at your gallery of photos, click on the one you want.  Then, go to "actions" and then "edit in picnik" where you can add lots of fun effects.
6.  Save it to the computer again.  Finally, I reopened it in Photoshop again and added more star brush effects on the side.  I downloaded the brush effects from one of the web sites I listed above.  Voila!  Done!

New Cards

I have some new cards I finished last night while watching the Bachelorette.  I have an idea to have these made into greeting cards either to sell or just give to people.  I am inspired by bright colors, doodles, patterns and shapes!  If I were to go backpacking in the Himalayas for a year and could only take 3 art supplies I would bring my Sakura Koi travel watercolor set, Black Micron pens, and a Strathmore Visual Journal Sketchpad!  That's all I would need!

Faith Greeting Card

Another greeting card showing off my new colorful lettering style.   I'm not as happy with this one, but oh well! I'm making a whole series of these cards and I think I'm going to photocopy them for Christmas.  I'm really enjoying doing this funky lettering thing. It just so happens that one of my long time friends from high school has 2 girls named Faith and Hope so I am going to make them a name poster similar to this.  Well, she also has a boy named William, so he will get one too, but that's not a Christmas word.   I also have to share with you the butterfly effect.   I really enjoy Amy and Mel's honest, funny and casual writings about the true nature of art and how they create.  It's so true and also entertaining reads.  I'm linking this one up to the Butterfly Effect.

Paint Party Friday

Happy Paint Party Friday!
Here is the painting that I just can't stop re-doing.  It's getting closer to being "done".

Painting!

Flower Power, 2011,  Gouache, ink, watercolor paint

Remember this painting, that I was unhappy with?

Well, I gessoed over those flowers in the middle and added some other colors to change the scheme a bit.  I'm going to add a bit more line work, probably in white or light gray.

I testing out some new methods for lettering!  I'm going to make some greeting cards.
